Job Description

Ed Tech III Position- Caribou Community School

2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR

Caribou Community School is seeking a patient, dedicated, and compassionate Educational Technician III to support students in a self-contained Life Skills Special Education Program for grades 4–7 during the 2025–2026 school year. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who have significant developmental and functional needs in a supportive, structured, and team-oriented environment. RSU 39 is committed to helping all students reach their potential through individualized instruction, functional skill development, and meaningful inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to students with moderate to severe disabilities in a self-contained life skills classroom.
  • Supervise students in non-classroom settings, including hallways and recess, to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Assist with implementation of individualized academic instruction, life skills training, and functional routines aligned with students’ IEP goals.
  • Support students with daily living activities, communication development, sensory regulation, and behavior management as needed.
  • Assist students with personal care tasks, mobility, and physical support, when required.
  • Collect data and document student progress toward IEP goals and objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with the special education teacher, related service providers, and general education staff to ensure consistency and continuity of supports.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes independence and growth.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 90 college credit hours and current authorization from the Maine Department of Education as an Educational Technician III (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in a school, residential, or therapeutic setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about functional academics, augmentative communication, behavior strategies, and adaptive life skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a commitment to supporting student growth.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Team-oriented, dependable, and flexible mindset.
