The Director of Special Education and Inclusion will lead the implementation of the vision, expectations, skills, and training necessary for parishes and schools in the Archdiocese of St. Louis to provide the least restrictive local-level educational environment for students with disabilities. The Director will develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate special education programs and services and provide professional development opportunities for Catholic school educators.
● Articulate the vision and mission of special education in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
● Support parishes and schools to ensure that, above all else, the faith formation needs of students with disabilities are being served.
● Form leaders to embrace the Church's call to foster inclusive education, ensuring all students fully participate in the life of the Church.
● Plan and implement a broad array of programming and best practices that supports the least to the most restrictive learning environments for students with disabilities.
● Establish a framework that supports planning, implementing, and evaluating inclusive education.
● Develop partnerships and professional learning communities to provide professional development and support to schools, especially in the areas of evaluation interpretation and data analysis, MTSS, UDL, and special education advocacy.
● Strengthen existing partnerships with specialized services, third-party providers and foundations to ensure effective coordination and the highest level of intervention services at the local school sites.
● Assist with the coordination of student services for schools, especially in the areas of speech/language, social-emotional education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and diagnostic services.
● Evaluate and assist current stand-alone special education services provided by the archdiocese.
● Develop one’s own individual competencies and growth through professional development in leadership and special services in inclusive instruction.
Work Environment The role involves:
● working in an office setting with an academic team and colleagues.
● coordinating and implementing professional development sessions for educators throughout the archdiocese.
● attending meetings, conferences, and events as well as visiting schools
Qualifications
● Practicing Catholic.
● Master’s Degree in Special Education.
● Valid special education certification as required by the state of Missouri.
● Extensive experience in special education teaching and leadership.
